Sphynx cat and persian cat care/keeping them together?

Question: Sphynx cat and persian cat care/keeping them together?

(Posted by: on 2011-10-08 04:45:02)

Hi, in about 7 months time i hope to have two new cats. A Sphynx and a Persian, now i know they are very differant in the fluff department so i was wondering whether they'd be able to live together in perfect harmony? And also, any tips/ dvice you would give me on caring for them when be good, thankyou:) Also, i was wondering about letting them out, i've heard house cats are genrally unhappy, and stink, but i'd be worried about letting them out, i live near a road where there is a police station at the top and my friend says letting her cats out the back they still just wonder to the front, my next door neighbor has a ginger cat that is out all the time, it's very old and not very active now and will probably die soon, but it's never had an accident on the road, i would still worry though. I wouldn't want them cooped up indoors all day, on their own while i'm at college and the next door neighbors cats seem nice enough, i don't know whether the old one will still be alive in 7 months time but they have the the other one they could befriend. I'm also worried about them being kidnapped, could i get them fitted with micro chips that track them because i really wouldn't want them to be kidnapped. Will the sphynx be ok in the English whether anyway, it might get cold, and we live near a park where people walk their dogs, and omg it really doesn't seem safe letting them out but i don't want them to be sad house catsD: Help:L Tankyou:) <3 Oil stains, LOLWUT?! When you say once a week, can this mean atleast would i be able to wash it twice a week to decrease the chances of oil stains?? Is it going to be a really greasy cat? And i have decided to keep them as indoor cats, the litter will be by my back door and will be kept clean as much as possible, i think they will be enough to keep eachother company if they are indoor cats:)

Well tbh, Persian cats shouldn't be let outside as there coats will just get filthy, and you would be cleaning them non stop.. that's the only advice i can give you. I wouldn't let the Persian out (:

The cats will be fine together. If you are worried about them out side buy or make cat enclosures to keep them safe. My sister has done this and adds to them when she has money. Her neighbour threatened to hurt them. Indoor cats only smell because they use cat litter and that is the smell just change it. Have 2 littler trays as they can be funny about sharing. Indoor cats are often very happy cats if that is how they were raised. Have them chipped even if they are indoor cats as they may get out. Good luck and enjoy your new fur babies

First of all breeders have contracts stating their kittens/ cats are to be 100% indoor cats. If you are not gonna abide by that, then please don't adopt either. Cats are fine as being indoors all the time (all of mine are and are quite happy). Second, neither breed should even be going outside for obvious reasons (Sphynx have no coat and will get sunburned and Persians will get very matted with dirt, etc). If you want to supervise them outside for short periods of time, then build an enclosed cat enclosure in the yard and only let them outside in good weather for no more then an hour (provide shade for the Sphynx). These are expensive cats - pets start at $600 in the US and Sphynx are even higher. Both are high maintenance cats. Persians require daily combing (not brushing) to keep the coat from getting matted. Sphynx need weekly washing to keep the oils from building up on their skin and they will leave oil stains on furniture and walls.
