Question: Are main coon cats generally bigger than others?
(Posted by: on 2011-09-28 09:03:52)
My aunt has a cat that is part main coon. She found him on her paper route. He is not even fat yet, he weighs more than 25 lbs. He is BIG. Is that typical? |

Yes, that is pretty normal. My friend has a Maine coon and I think she said it's 28 lbs. which I've heard that they could way up to 30 lbs. and be normal. |

Maine Coons are a large breed cat as are Ragdolls. My coonie is registered and is considered a mid size male at 16-18 lbs. His dad was 22 lbs at 4 years old and his mother was 10 lbs at 3. |

Yes, it's normal. Check this out: youtube.com/ watch?v= gc5M0aGc_EI All that mileage has to add up in pounds. B) |

Yes. That's totally normal. Especially since he is a male. Main Coon's have larger body builds. |

The largest Maine Coon Cat weighs 35 pounds and is 48.5 " long, but the normal weight is up to 12 pounds for a female and 18 pounds for a male. |

Since most cats are NO breed at all and since breeders who breed *actual* purebreds are protective of their cats and have most spayed/ neutered at 8 weeks of age, the chance of a cat being "part " anything is very, very rare. Color, size, and hair length are not indicators of breed - there's more to it then that. Your aunt's cat is likely just a very large domestic longhair. |

They are usually BIG cats! But the manx cat is (in general) the biggest domesticated breed of cats. |

The typical adult male Maine Coon is 18-25 lbs. To Brittney - I have no clue where you got your info about Manx - but they are NOT huge cats - they are medium size - 9-12 lbs at the most! |

The breed is "Maine Coon " and very unlikely this cat is "part " one since breeders tend to sell kittens altered and never allow crossbreeding. What she has is simply a very large "domestic " - a cat of no particular breed just like over 97% of the cats on this entire planet. Pedigreed male Maine Coons can get up to 20 pounds. 25 pounds sounds like an obese cat. What is she feeding him? |
