How to take care of cat eye discharge?

Question: How to take care of cat eye discharge?

(Posted by: on 2011-07-18 12:43:21)

My cat has sticky bugger like thing in his eye.. I think it is a eye discharge. This has been going on for a while and can you treat it with out going to the vets?

This is most likely an eye infection, and as it is easy to fix with a round of antibiotics and cleaning, it cannot be done without a visit to the vet. It's cheap to fix an eye infection, get your kitty to the vets asap, or further problems can occur.

For my cats that is usually normal. I take a soft Kleenex and clean their eyes gently so it doesn't build up and cause more problems.

Try cleaning it off with a soft tissue, dampened a bit might be good. If you keep cleaning it out for a few days and it keeps coming back, it may be infected and require antibiotics. It is possible something got in the eye and scraped it or otherwise irritated it and it will clear up on its own. If it stops eating or drinking or has any other symptoms of a bigger problem I would dfinitely see a vet.

There is a store called rural king that sells eye wipes for cats that are like a wet napkin. they work really good. if you dont have that store around i would try searching for pet wipes on amazon
