Question: Do large domestic cats jump high?
(Posted by: on 2012-02-03 21:53:36)
Hello, I have a 15- pound Ragdoll/ Siamese mix male cat. He is way too big to be indoors so we want to send him outside. So I am wondering if he will be able to jump our 6 foot wooden fence. he is a very lazy cat, very wobbly. you think he will be able to jump that high and be able to hang on? tmc you obviously have no problem with cat litter and cat poop all over your bed and furniture. and also, arent cat happier living outside. being inside 24/ 7 is freakin depressing. |

A 15 lb cat is certainly NOT too big to be indoors. If you can't keep him inside please re-home him to a responsible owner who can. And yes, the cat could easily get over a 6ft fence. Why would there be cat litter and poop all over my bed and furniture? Never had it yet nor do I expect it to suddenly appear. Clearly you have never had cats in your house. And yes, cats are NOT happier living outside. If that's what you were trying to say, you failed. Epically. Buh-bye! |

Cats will learn to do things outside if they get the chance. He may not jump it today or tomorrow, but give him time to think about it. |

Yes he could jump the fence. Put a harness on him and take him for a walk. It's better than worrying about if he will come back home or not. |

He could probably jump it, but maybe not if he's wobbly. I wouldn't worry too much if he does, though. Cats, especially older ones, generally don't venture out of their territory without knowing how to get back. Though, if you're so worried about him getting cooped up inside, then why are you worrying about him jumping your fence? It's like you're trading one pen for another... |

I have a 15lb Ragdoll and he is a house cat - he cannot cope outside - he would get run over or attacked as they do not defend themselves - if you do not want this cat you should find a way of re-homing him, not just pushing him outside where he will not cope. My cat cannot jump a 6 foot fence Ragdolls look lazy because they are laid back - they have been bred to be like that - why did you get him??? Have you given him more then 1 litter tray - is it clean - they are very fussy, poo needs to be taken away at once or they have no where to pee! 2 trays should be provided. I think you are fed up with the cat and need to find someone else to take him. |

He could - you'd be surprised at how high they CAN jump if they want. If you are gonna let him outside, do so under supervision - not just let him roam unsupervised. Too many dangers and he's very likely to get stolen (people thinking he's purebred), hit and hurt/ killed by cars, poisoned, etc. Either train to a harness/ leash and take him outside to walk around or build/ buy an enclosed cat enclosure (like a gazebo type). My cats are 100% indoors and very happy and healthy. |
