Young cat; ravenous appetite?

Question: Young cat; ravenous appetite?

(Posted by: on 2012-02-05 18:21:05)

My husband and I are watching our friends cat while she is finishing college. He's about a year old, neutered and shots up to date. He is driving us insane with the amount he eats and the way he acts when we start to feed all of our animals. We started keeping him in the finished basement because he would try to eat the other 2 cats and sometimes the dogs food! He will rip open bags of bread and knock over the trash! Meow incessantly and he destroyed our basement door trying to get out for more food! He is not losing weight and there is no sign of worms. Any ideas? We can't afford to bring her cat to the vet and I highly doubt she has the money right now. It's just driving us crazy!!!!

Maybe these will help: cat-world.com.au/ increased-appetite-polyphagia-in-cats ehow.com/ how_6760454_treat-appetite-losing-weight-diarrhea.html?ref= Track2 &utm_source= ask Growing cats go through eating cycles. A time period where they eat normally and then a cycle where they eat you out of house and home. Each cycle can go a few weeks. The increased eating is to keep up with their growing. Were you feeding the cat enough to begin with? Does the cat eat a lot then finally stop? Then it just wasn't getting enough food. Another cause might be tapeworm, it might not show in poo. Has the cat been wormed? Keeping it in the basement alone is a horrid punishment for something that is probably medical.
