Is pregnancy bad for a cats health?

Question: Is pregnancy bad for a cats health?

(Posted by: on 2012-01-10 11:18:46)

Is a cat that was neutered early in life (or later) and has never had a litter on track for better health than a cat who has produced litters?

To be honest there is more pros's to getting pets neutered, it is important however to do it after the first season. There is just too many unwanted pets needing homes or destroyed because of silly mistakes and neglect. Also without neutering pets can develop womb cancer and polyps which can be costly later in life and easily avoided. No pet needs to get pregnant unnecessary, it wont do anything for them. It is not like letting them get pregnant so they know they have done it and they will be happy the rest of their lives when neutered, animals do not work that way. If you have no need to breed which a lot of people don't then neuter/ spay your pet and you will likely have a better bond with your pet when sex is not on their mind all the time.

Yes, a spayed/ neutered cat is healthier, smells better, and lives longer. In my mind though, this is not the main issue. The main issue is that cats can procreate in prolific numbers and hundreds of thousands are euthanized daily, including kittens and pregnant queens. The pet overpopulation alone is the main reason to neuter/ spay.

It's not bad but it is a stressor on the animal

For the most part YES. But if the cat is a top show quality purebred with genetic screening and careful and limited litters, she can be as healthy as a spayed cat that never has had a litter. Reputable breeders usually let their breeding females have 2-3 litters at the most and then spay them and let them live as spoiled pets.
