Is it ok to trim my cats whiskers?

Question: Is it ok to trim my cats whiskers?

(Posted by: on 2012-01-31 14:47:53)

Ordinarily I wouldn't even consider this, but he's got some sticky stuff over a few of his whiskers yesterday and this evening it seems to have gone really hard, and it really seems to be bugging him, and he can't get it off himself. I have no idea what he's been poking his head into now, he's a free range cat who likes to go and say hello to all the neighbours.

No, especially if he goes outdoors...he needs them at full length so he can sense whether or not he'll fit where he's going. they'll come clean eventually.

Have you tried washing it out first? Or even using something like rubbing alcohol? It won't hurt your cat, though it may make his equilibrium go off a little, whiskers come out and grow back naturally, so if it's already a problem, you might as well get it off.

Not to smart, don't do it. if you must, take him to a vet. What i would do is try to take a damp cloth and rub it over his whiskers. Keep an eye on your poor kitty.

That is Animal Cruelty. People have been arrested for doing just this. Just wash his face. Of course you do not know what he pokes into since he is free range. He could get into poison.

NO! He needs them, Our cat accidently burned her whiskers in a candle when we weren't watching and they still haven't grown back. Its been over a year. The stuff will eventually fade and come off if he keeps licking it.

No, cats rely on their whiskers for just about everything. I'd just let it come off on its own or try and wipe it off if you can.

No that takes away their balance

A warm wet washcloth hasn't been used? No, it's not ok to cut his whiskers. Would you shave off your eyebrows?
