Question: Help with cat training? please answer?
(Posted by: on 2011-04-14 18:14:19)
I have a 9- month old kitten named Barney and I want to start teaching him tricks. So I am going to make him learn to wave hello by putting a treat above him so he will paw at it and do a "wave " motion, then gradually start not including the treats. The problem: I don't have any treats to use, and I can't buy any because there is no local stores that sell them cheaply. Are there any human foods that are safe AND favored by kittens? Please help, because I want to teach him soon. I'm also considering using meat, as said below. Would refrigerated taco meat be okay? @ "Zit ": How many times to I have to say it's a HIM??? lol. XD |

Do not used spiced meats...not all spices we eat are safe or good for cats. i would not use taco meat. bologna, hot dog, ham, turkey, chicken...stuff like that that isnt spiced would be ok. |

Well good luck, some cats are easier to train than others, many of them have a mind of their own. You might just try using something else enticing, like a ribbon or rope. maybe they think it's a snake but it seems to bring out the hunter in them. No don't give your cat taco meat! They shouldn't have spicy stuff, especially a kitten. |

Try a bit of tuna fish instead of meat, especially any raw meat for a 9 month old kitten. Don't expect too much results in the way of "training " for kittens/ cats especially. They're quite different than dogs. Cats are very independent and can take attention or leave it, while dogs usually crave attention and do some tricks for a treat to get it. Dogs and cats need to be fed foods developed especially for them ( Especially if you expect them to live a long and healthy life! ) Just as humans don't eat pet foods, pets shouldn't be fed human foods, at least on any regular basis. |

Cooked liver its cheap, very nutritious and tasty to a cat your local butcher can save liver scraps for you if you ask them boil it and cut it into cubes about a quarter inch in size they will keep a long time in a ziploc bag |

Hot dogs, chicken, beef any meat that is cooked or raw would work. and every cats different some learn tricks fast and others not so fast. It took me an hour to teach my kitty to shake so really you gotta say the command as many times until your cat associates the word for the trick for the treat. |

Go to walmart and buy treats they are rather cheap and much healthier. |
