Why is my cat licking clay lumbs?

Yesterday I adopted a cat from the animal shelter. He is 9 months old, and has been fixed. They did tell me that he has a cold and has medicine for it. They say that other then that, medically he is completely healthy. Why is my cat licking furniture all of a sudden?
I have an almost five year old female calico. She's an indoor cat and has been since I rescued her at about 3 4 months old. She's healthy except for being slightly overweight. Recently, I have noticed that she just started licking random things.. The recliner, a pillow, a blanket, etc. Everything she licks is made of soft material and she doesn't obsessively lick herself. She just bathes herself normally. She's also never done this before. I have one other cat and one dog but they've been around for over a year, and I haven't changed her food recently either. It seems harmless, other than being slightly annoying, but I'm just trying to figure out what's going on with her. Does anyone else have this problem?
Do I need a vet after catching my cat licking the candles?
I walked up only to find my cat licking the candle. I don't know how long she was doing it but I picked her up and she seemed fine. There were no marks on the candle that I could see. It was a scented candle. Do I need a vet?

Cats licking the fireplace?
ok so our 9 1 2 year old cat recently took to licking the fireplace. We have moved just over 6 months ago into a new house with a wood burning stove. Strange, we thought, but we came on the internet and decided from everything we read that it was just 'one of those weird things cats do'. Then last night i caught another one at it and since then i have seen both our other cats doing the same thing. They climb up on top and sit there licking either the top of the fire or the flue. I really am at a loss, i know PICA cant be a possibility as this is 4 individual cats from very different backgrounds and all of differing ages. I think this is possibly the strangest cat behaviour on mass that i have ever witnessed, last night they were almost queueing up to have a good old lick..........any ideas gratefully received, im not worried, more curious really

Sometimes when I'm sleeping ill wake up to my cat licking my hair non stop. I take a shower everyday so its not dirty. Do you think its bad for either me or my cat to be doing this? I know this is weird but I'm just curious
