Do u know anything about cat illnesses?
i just got this kitten about two weeks ago and noticed that she has discharge from her nose. this discharge looks like dirt and settles at the opening of her nostrils. its not runny and her nose is dry. i clean her nose with a qtip everyday and the next day the discharge is there again. its not a whole lot but its there. also her lymph nodes under her chin are swollen and has minimal discharge from her eyes occasionally. she's very playful and healthy and eats well. what do u think this could be? like a cold, sinus infection, or uri? have u heard of these symptoms with feline leukemia? i took her to the vet today and they are testing for the feline leukemia but i wont know til monday. serious answers only pleaz...

What are some contagious cat illnesses? help!?
for about the past 5 days one of my cats grew ill we have 3 cats . she was vomiting and had diarrhea. around the 5th day she became lethargic and stopped eating so we finally took her to the vet. the vet however only took a fecal test and it came back negative. She gave her so anti nausea medicine and told us to monitor her over the next few days. Well now its been a day shes not vomiying but shes still lethargic and barely eating. Today we noticed one of our cats is super lethargic and isn't eating. Now the other cat isnt lethargic but isnt eating as much. My question is what dieseases are infectious in felines that don't involve infection being that the fecal test ruled that out . Sidenote we were babysitting my sisters cat but nevr made contact with the cats

Should I put this cat to sleep? Anyone know anything about cat illnesses?
There was a young cat who I was feeding outside. He's only been around a couple weeks. I noticed some severe nasal congestion so I put him in a cage in the garage for the night. In the morning I saw he had diahrea. The vet tested for FIV and FLK and he was negative. Then the vet sent me home with revolution and Clavamox, but no real diagnosis. He said his intestinal tract was " inflammed" and his lungs were " seriously congested" . I have work travel coming up next weekend, and this cat is seriously sick. His nose looks kind of raw. So far I've given him 4 doses of Clavamox 2 days worth and he still sounds like pneumonia. He still has the runs and it's dried into his coat around his legs. I'm considering taking him to ASPCA and having him put down. I try so hard to save these guys, but I'm wondering if this is realistic. I've got 4 indoor cats, and without knowing what he's got, I'm afraid something will get to them. Any ideas on what he has? Should I put him to sleep?I only have 5 days to get him better before my travel. I was going to give him to a friend, who I doubt could care for the illness. And the friend has a household of cats that I wouldn't want to expose to a seriously ill cat. I feel so bad for the little guy. He's white and a light orange, and just looks so sad.Depending on what he has, if I had more time, I'd be more inclined to try to get him well. But, I only have a few days and he's severely ill. Plus, I found another healthier cat that would probably be a better match for my friend. These decsions are so tough The ASPCA said they will put down any sick cats right now, since they are intaking 80 a day and can only keep the most adoptable ones.

Cat Illness?
One off my cats the overday started sneezing alot, he was having many sneezing 'fits' often. and just yesterday my over cat has been suffering from the same thing. Tho my second cat seems to be suffering more as he isnt always sneezing just finding it hardish to breath. I was just woundering if this could be somethign serious and should ring up the vet. i was also woundering what you think is wrong with them. there is noting coming out when they sneez and are both eating and drinking.

Cat illness question?
My cat 12 yr. old male was recently diagnosed with pancreatitis. I was wondering if anyone knew how to exactly take care of cats with this illness. We're feeding him watery cat food through a syringe as well as water, but when should we expect him to start eating again on his own? I read somewhere 3 6 weeks, is that accurate? Also, I read somewhere that he will be more prone to diabetes. Again, how accurate is that?Lastly, is there any type of diet that he should be on following this illness?Thank you all for you answers, I will take note of most of the advice... and YES he has seen a vet 3 TIMES, 3 DOCTORS ... I'm not a vet, so therefore it would be hard for me to make a diagnosis and have it be accurate.AND also a word of warning... he definitely got pancreatitis from eating a SMALL sample bag of Hartz cat treats with tartar control... they're brand new on the market, so beware He only had a few over a two day spread, barely a handful and the vet is pretty sure that that's what did it. Treats have a high fat content and this coupled with an older age, larger cat could cause pancreatitis.

Some sort of cat illness?
Well, my cat we got him 6 days ago is pretty skinny, he was like that when we got him. Unfortunatly the Petco we got him from didn't let us hold him or anything untill the day we got him, hence why we only saw he was slim, but he's practically skin and bones. He seems to drink regularly, we're not too sure about using the litter box, though. We assume he uses it enough.Anyways, he litteraly never eats. We've tried giving him different types of food Canned, two different flavors. Cat food we feed it to our other cats . And during the first 2 days, we assumed it was stress of being in a new home and new cats they were defensive around him at frist. But they get along good now with occasional hesitation to get close to him, a bit of hissing.. but just normal things. and possibly the new food so we called petco and asked what food he normally ate then bought it. He still didn't eat.We tried giving him canned tuna he didn't eat it. Then we bought other canned food still nothing. We figure he's eating atleast a little at night, and my Mom has seen him nibbling on some during 2 3 occasions.. but still, we're worried about his appetite and skinny ness.we're going to call his vet tomorrow and ask, but we wanted to see if it's something serious. if so, I'd call her from work.. since I'm too young to drive him to the vet, lol.please and thank you. edit okay, thank you guys for the fast replies. we're definetly consolting a vet tomorrow since when my mom gets off work it will most likely be closed.i'm going to try and get him to eat, i'm hoping for the best. thanks again guys

Sudeen cat illness; no noticeable points of pain but just general illness?
My cat is not acting himself. He came in a little later than usual the other day and was limping. He ate some ham and drank but has just been laying around now. He's been acting a little better today. He is an adult male, neutered cat who is usually happy and energetic. He goes outside but comes in almost every night, being out maybe a couple nights a month. He'll look like he's in pain and start to breather heavily and shake a bit. I dont see any flesh wounds and he's ok with being touched everywhere. He was a stray and was never tested for leukemia or the other common illnesses. I have 9 other cats and need to get this figured out and make surte it's not contagious. Something similar happened a few months ago and he was just fine after. Anything this mighty be? He will go to the vet if he stays under the weater but not for a couple days. Thanks.

Contagious cat illness?
Our new shelter kitten has an eye infection. I am using eye ointment. I am worried about my 2 kids catching it. What cat illnesses are contagious to humans?

Mystery cat illness - anyone know what it might have been?
About a year ago, both my cats went down with what I take to have been a virus. I live in London and the cats are very outdoor cats, very healthy and active. First the big one, then a few days later the small one, developed a temperature and started lying around doing not much and not eating a lot either unusual for the big one, this . I took the big one to the vet who did blood tests etc etc and said he had a very high temperature. The blood tests came back clear except there was slight jaundice caused by sudden weight loss. Then the little one started ailing, exactly the same thing though not as bad. The vet was stumped and so was I. Both cats are fully inoculated, and both had the same illness, the trip to the vet etc. Anyone got any suggestions as to what they might have had? Although they had antibiotics, I think this was a virus, but have never been able to find out what. They seem to have made a complete recovery too.

Whats my cats illness?
My cat is a 21 year old ragdoll that has not seen the vet in quite some time as he gets stressed out when he sees the docs, and i haven't wanted to put him through that level of stress due to his age unless its totally necessary. Anyways he seems to eat all of his wet food i give him for breakfast lunch and dinner no problem, but now he has been losing weight. He is so skinny, and he also ocassionaly throws up his food after he has eaten it but this may be due to the fact that he is a picky eater . Anyways I am not sure if this is just an age issue or if i should really be concerned. Please help

Cat illness has anybody else had this happen to their cats?
I am a rescuer and recently I pulled 7 cats from the same litter to safety from a kill shelter. These cats died one by one. No symptoms, no runny nose, no watery eyes and no sneezing. All of the cats were playful and eating drinking and then boom within 12 hours they look slightly off to staggering and then they are dead. It's so quick Vet tried several antibiotics, sulfur meds for coccidiosis even though they tested negative, just in case. My vet also tried fluids and long lasting Ceph injection just to make sure they were getting their meds and not salivating them out like some cats do.Necropsy one cat all it showed was a collapsed lung with blood on one side. No outward signs of pnemonia. They tested neg for leuk, aids, coccidiosis & parasites.I did talk with some other rescuers and 2 said recently they have had a similar outbreak resulting in death. They couldn't spend the money to find out what it was.I did send one of the dead bodies to the university for a full lab report. I have two cats here and even though they were separated I feel I need to know what it was the other cats had just in case my healthy cats get sick, at least I want to know how to treat it if I can.My vet even thought maybe tainted food from when they were at the shelter becasue there are still issues with lots of food and tained food can sometimes take weeks to kill or make an animal sick.Okay cat lovers look out for this nasty thing and if anybody has any insight for me while I wait on these lab reports I would be curious. Thanks Hi and thanks for the distember answer. My vet said probably not because of the lungs. These kittens were 6 months old and not vaccinated, so I guess you could be right? I hope that you are right because then my other two cats should be fine, they are vaccinated, these cats I just rescued and didn't even have a chance to vaccinate them they started getting ill.

Cat illness?
My kitten, I'm guessing to be about 3 4 months old, since I just found her outside a few months ago, and so it's my best guess based on her size. Lately she has had an enlarged stomach and at first I just thought maybe she was eating too much. I have kept an eye on her poop and have seen no worms. Then for the last few days I've noticed that in the spots where she has been sleeping on my bed there have been large wet spots of at least 5x5" or so, give or take each time. They have no odor and no color that I can tell. She isn't acting sick, she's still playing and running around with my other cats, but it has me worried. I have made an appointment for next week with the vet, it's the soonest one I could get. But I'm just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else before just to maybe give me an idea of what it might be because I am really confused. And if anyone has seen it before and knows its something bad I may take her into the emergency vet. Thanks The spots are way too big to be druel. They're really big, like bigger than her entire body. And some times they look a bit mucasy and it's sticky. And it's not where her head was resting it's where her butt was resting.

SERIOUS cat illness??? What is this!?
All three of our cats have been stricken with an odd illness, and I'm very worried. They've displayed symptoms for about two weeks. They fight a lot so I didn't necessarily realize that there was something wrong. They all have flea colors and I haven't seen anything on them although my rats did get mites of some kind recently?? I THINK are all gone now? . Anyhow here are the symptoms Red irritated areas of skinSome hair loss around injuriesLarge wounds like this cruiser.smugmug.com photos 31630352 L.jpg NO that is not one of my cats ScabsI have no idea where the wounds are coming from...And I THINK that's it.The wounds are all over one or their bodies, on the stomach of another, and on the tummy and legs of the last kitty. I came home today and one of them had left a bloody trail in the kitchen because he had an open would on his back the size of a folded dollar O I will make sure they get help from a vet, but do you have any idea what's wrong with them ? Is it serious? Could it be worms? What about another parasite? Is it a contagious infection of some sort? I'm really worried. For about three days the cats wen without their flea collars because I forgot to buy their new ones, but only for three days. They have flea collars on now they usually do but could it have involved that? I saw a few TINY round black bugs on my rat's cage a while back, we cleaned him and all the stuff around him, but I wonder...???Please help me I'm losing my mind What could be wrong with them ?

Question about cat illness plus persistent diarrhea?
i have 4 cats ill name them so theres no confusion Splodge, Dennis Star and Guiness. first 3 males, last female all neautured except Splodge, all aged between 1 1 and a half years we rescued a fifth, Willow, she has now gone to the cats protection league.after rescueing her,we noticed she had SEVERE diarrhea, wattery, mucusy, bloody etc.we treated her with anti biotics, the bllod and mucus cleared up,but diarrhea stayed.she then went to CPL,just before she did Star and Splodge developed diarreah and have both lost a little weight. dennis doesnt have it not sure about guiness all my cats are currently being treated for resputary infections star for the second time in 3 weeks .Star was due for a blood test for aids& lukemia after the first infection, but at his checkup was fine so vet decided not to do it. i mentioned the diorrhea, and he said because he and the others are fine within themselves and happy, theres prob nothing wrong and he perscribed kaogel, but that isnt really having any affect.i dont see how persistant diarrhea CANNOT be a problem.he suggested it could just be stress as i made it clear their diet hasnt been changed or anything, but i dont see how this can be the case.their stools arent watery like Willows were, just very very runny.Willow was later diagnosed with " torrovirus" but our vet has never heared of it and not many have i just wondered if anyone has any advice.i simply cannot afford to keep taking each cat to the vet all the time at 32 a time any help will be greatly appreciated thankyouthis diarrhea has been going on now for about 2 months or so.thanks suzy cutes, theres no link though?sorry just noticed
