Contagious cat illness?
Our new shelter kitten has an eye infection. I am using eye ointment. I am worried about my 2 kids catching it. What cat illnesses are contagious to humans?
Mysterious cat illness or poisoning?
ello i have a cat that is sick and i just brought her home from the vets office after her being their for five days. The vet told me he doesnt know whats wrong with her but suspects it might be somekind of poisoning.Friday my cat got loose and came home after a few hours. She came in and ate and then went to sleep.Saturday afternoon after i finished my chores i went to pick up my cat precious she was completely limp and i thought she was dead so i rushed my cat to the vets office. She was barely breathing and had blood in her urine.. The vet put her on iv fluids and antibiotics. We left her there over night. Sunday he said she was doing alittle better and could lift her head. I checked back on her monday and he said she was still the same as the day before and didnt have blood in her urine anymore and suggested keeping her one more night.she cant walk and when she does she is very wobbly and sometimes she collapses. Her eyes are half dilated. She will eat but only if hand feed. I dont know what to do. since she is slightly better then she was i dont want to be hasty and put her down for no reasonnow she seems to be getting better but she is having somekind of weird skin problem its almost like her skin is falling apart. she seems like she is in pain when you pick her up. Her eyes arent dilated anymore and she does purr now. Anybody have any ideas im afraid shes going to get an infectionno its not extended the vet sewed most of stomach up and left some of it undone because it was infected. She has been nibbling on food and ive been giving her nutri cal
Please help! All my cats are going to get it!! ahh! Not a cat-person and know little about cat illnesses!?
I found a feral pregnant kitty and after feeding her and giving her shelter and attention, I gained her trust enough so that she can be pet and likes me. This being said she had five kittens. They are much less feral than she is, but still the live mostly outside and can freely come in and out of my garage where I have a nice set up for them there. So none of them have been vaccinated or treated for anything yet 8 weeks old but recently one got sick. It had diarrhea, lethargy and refused to eat. So I force fed it and had the vet give it a water injection and even treat it for worms she said just in case that was the problem . It was sick like the for nearly 5 days and then suddenly after another water injection it perked up and is eating again now However now 2 of the other kittens are sick even in worse condition than the first kitty. I'm at a loss for what they could have It was so expensive taking care of the other kitten and I don t think i can literately afford to do it for possibly 4 more kitties What do you think they could have? A parasite? Parvo? If we can determine what it might be then maybe we can actually treat the illness making it much less expensive Please help Just to clarify a few things 1. I'm not an irresponsible pet owner. The cats found me and I was kind enough to feed them believe me I know not to have pets that I can't afford, but these guys more adopted me 2. We will be getting the mommy cat fixed soon so no worries no more kitties 3. I really do love these cats though even if they are feral and I want to help them as much as I can, but the way that I treated the last sick kitty was incredibly pricey If I could just determine whats making them ill, then we could treat that right away instead of having to try a bunch of failed things, if that makes senseThanks so much for any help My kitties say thanks too.
Should I put this cat to sleep? Anyone know anything about cat illnesses?
There was a young cat who I was feeding outside. He's only been around a couple weeks. I noticed some severe nasal congestion so I put him in a cage in the garage for the night. In the morning I saw he had diahrea. The vet tested for FIV and FLK and he was negative. Then the vet sent me home with revolution and Clavamox, but no real diagnosis. He said his intestinal tract was " inflammed" and his lungs were " seriously congested" . I have work travel coming up next weekend, and this cat is seriously sick. His nose looks kind of raw. So far I've given him 4 doses of Clavamox 2 days worth and he still sounds like pneumonia. He still has the runs and it's dried into his coat around his legs. I'm considering taking him to ASPCA and having him put down. I try so hard to save these guys, but I'm wondering if this is realistic. I've got 4 indoor cats, and without knowing what he's got, I'm afraid something will get to them. Any ideas on what he has? Should I put him to sleep?I only have 5 days to get him better before my travel. I was going to give him to a friend, who I doubt could care for the illness. And the friend has a household of cats that I wouldn't want to expose to a seriously ill cat. I feel so bad for the little guy. He's white and a light orange, and just looks so sad.Depending on what he has, if I had more time, I'd be more inclined to try to get him well. But, I only have a few days and he's severely ill. Plus, I found another healthier cat that would probably be a better match for my friend. These decsions are so tough The ASPCA said they will put down any sick cats right now, since they are intaking 80 a day and can only keep the most adoptable ones.
Sudeen cat illness; no noticeable points of pain but just general illness?
My cat is not acting himself. He came in a little later than usual the other day and was limping. He ate some ham and drank but has just been laying around now. He's been acting a little better today. He is an adult male, neutered cat who is usually happy and energetic. He goes outside but comes in almost every night, being out maybe a couple nights a month. He'll look like he's in pain and start to breather heavily and shake a bit. I dont see any flesh wounds and he's ok with being touched everywhere. He was a stray and was never tested for leukemia or the other common illnesses. I have 9 other cats and need to get this figured out and make surte it's not contagious. Something similar happened a few months ago and he was just fine after. Anything this mighty be? He will go to the vet if he stays under the weater but not for a couple days. Thanks.
Real cat illness or is someone trying to screw me?
Im having a hard time finding anything about this online. We got a kitten who was seven weeks old and much to young to be away from its mother. The next morning she was quite ill, and she didnt drink any water from the time she was dropped off until we called the lady to come back and get her. I have a Quaker parrot and a clean house. She called me two days later to tell me she took it to the vet, and that the vet had found " bird droppings" in the cats poop, and that the cat had gotten very ill from eating bird poop. She told me birds carry parasites that are fine for the bird and cause no problems but that its toxic to the cat, and that I should be worried about my 5 month old dog as well. She wants me to pay all the vet bills. My questions are, can a cat get sick from eating indoor bird droppings? As I said my house is clean if she DID get to some it would have been very little. Do I need to worry about my dog? We had her for less than 24 hours and she was hardly ever out of our sight. Could the vet actually find bird droppings in cat feces? Any information is welcome.I also called the vet to confirm her story but they dont open until Monday and shes hounding me to pay the bill, which she is saying is 75$ even though the cat was overnight and on intravenous fluids and medication supposedly . The fee at that clinic is 55$ just for a visit, it happens to be our dogs vet.
Question about cat illness plus persistent diarrhea?
i have 4 cats ill name them so theres no confusion Splodge, Dennis Star and Guiness. first 3 males, last female all neautured except Splodge, all aged between 1 1 and a half years we rescued a fifth, Willow, she has now gone to the cats protection league.after rescueing her,we noticed she had SEVERE diarrhea, wattery, mucusy, bloody etc.we treated her with anti biotics, the bllod and mucus cleared up,but diarrhea stayed.she then went to CPL,just before she did Star and Splodge developed diarreah and have both lost a little weight. dennis doesnt have it not sure about guiness all my cats are currently being treated for resputary infections star for the second time in 3 weeks .Star was due for a blood test for aids& lukemia after the first infection, but at his checkup was fine so vet decided not to do it. i mentioned the diorrhea, and he said because he and the others are fine within themselves and happy, theres prob nothing wrong and he perscribed kaogel, but that isnt really having any affect.i dont see how persistant diarrhea CANNOT be a problem.he suggested it could just be stress as i made it clear their diet hasnt been changed or anything, but i dont see how this can be the case.their stools arent watery like Willows were, just very very runny.Willow was later diagnosed with " torrovirus" but our vet has never heared of it and not many have i just wondered if anyone has any advice.i simply cannot afford to keep taking each cat to the vet all the time at 32 a time any help will be greatly appreciated thankyouthis diarrhea has been going on now for about 2 months or so.thanks suzy cutes, theres no link though?sorry just noticed
Some sort of cat illness?
Well, my cat we got him 6 days ago is pretty skinny, he was like that when we got him. Unfortunatly the Petco we got him from didn't let us hold him or anything untill the day we got him, hence why we only saw he was slim, but he's practically skin and bones. He seems to drink regularly, we're not too sure about using the litter box, though. We assume he uses it enough.Anyways, he litteraly never eats. We've tried giving him different types of food Canned, two different flavors. Cat food we feed it to our other cats . And during the first 2 days, we assumed it was stress of being in a new home and new cats they were defensive around him at frist. But they get along good now with occasional hesitation to get close to him, a bit of hissing.. but just normal things. and possibly the new food so we called petco and asked what food he normally ate then bought it. He still didn't eat.We tried giving him canned tuna he didn't eat it. Then we bought other canned food still nothing. We figure he's eating atleast a little at night, and my Mom has seen him nibbling on some during 2 3 occasions.. but still, we're worried about his appetite and skinny ness.we're going to call his vet tomorrow and ask, but we wanted to see if it's something serious. if so, I'd call her from work.. since I'm too young to drive him to the vet, lol.please and thank you. edit okay, thank you guys for the fast replies. we're definetly consolting a vet tomorrow since when my mom gets off work it will most likely be closed.i'm going to try and get him to eat, i'm hoping for the best. thanks again guys
Do u know anything about cat illnesses?
i just got this kitten about two weeks ago and noticed that she has discharge from her nose. this discharge looks like dirt and settles at the opening of her nostrils. its not runny and her nose is dry. i clean her nose with a qtip everyday and the next day the discharge is there again. its not a whole lot but its there. also her lymph nodes under her chin are swollen and has minimal discharge from her eyes occasionally. she's very playful and healthy and eats well. what do u think this could be? like a cold, sinus infection, or uri? have u heard of these symptoms with feline leukemia? i took her to the vet today and they are testing for the feline leukemia but i wont know til monday. serious answers only pleaz...
SERIOUS cat illness??? What is this!?
All three of our cats have been stricken with an odd illness, and I'm very worried. They've displayed symptoms for about two weeks. They fight a lot so I didn't necessarily realize that there was something wrong. They all have flea colors and I haven't seen anything on them although my rats did get mites of some kind recently?? I THINK are all gone now? . Anyhow here are the symptoms Red irritated areas of skinSome hair loss around injuriesLarge wounds like this cruiser.smugmug.com photos 31630352 L.jpg NO that is not one of my cats ScabsI have no idea where the wounds are coming from...And I THINK that's it.The wounds are all over one or their bodies, on the stomach of another, and on the tummy and legs of the last kitty. I came home today and one of them had left a bloody trail in the kitchen because he had an open would on his back the size of a folded dollar O I will make sure they get help from a vet, but do you have any idea what's wrong with them ? Is it serious? Could it be worms? What about another parasite? Is it a contagious infection of some sort? I'm really worried. For about three days the cats wen without their flea collars because I forgot to buy their new ones, but only for three days. They have flea collars on now they usually do but could it have involved that? I saw a few TINY round black bugs on my rat's cage a while back, we cleaned him and all the stuff around him, but I wonder...???Please help me I'm losing my mind What could be wrong with them ?
Any vets out there please or anyone with knowledge of cat illness?
My mums cat has just at to be put down. The cat was perfectly well and healthy and then suddenly collapsed. Took it the vets and they said it had a brain disease and could not be cured. Very strangely, the next door neighbours cat had to be put down also a day later with exactly the same illness. Do you think it could be poisoning or from what i have just looked on the net for, a variant of mad cow disease called mad cat disease. Could really do with honest answers please cos i think its rather weird that two cats die from the same brain illness within a couple of days. thanksnot sure to be honest of what tests the vets did. I would just like very much too be able to help mum and dad understand what any possible causes may be. They have 4 other cats and dont want them be at risk either xthanks ladan. your help would be appreciated x
Cat illnesses?
A cat we've known was discovered today to have huge patches of fur missing, like it had been pulled out by the roots. The skin underneath was very white with what appear to be orange dots on it. We have two other cats and two dogs and hope it's nothing contagious. All the cats are outside only cats. We don't know much about the sick one because it's a loner, disappearing for sometimes days not fighting, usually just sleeping somewhere. It's always slept a lot since we've known it it just showed up one day... The patches of missing hair are on the back almost the full length and just in the middle of the chest.
Hi,I am new to cat care and am wondering if Vets charge to have a cats illness/injury diagnosed in the UK?
Apparently acording to law if a cat or other animal is suspected to be in ill health or suffering one way or another then a visit to the vet is mandatory because if the animal suffers then this is in violation of one law or another I forget the laws ? So if it is illegal not to seek help, then do vets charge for diagnosis or not?
Cat illness, Last 2 mos, cat is peeing & pooing everywhere litter box clean lost weight & eats drinks double?
cat has doubled food & water intake and peeing & pooing all over house. Lost alot of weight but still quick and no pain. She was bringing home mice moles and chipmunks but I discouraged this and she stopped. What stumps me is she eats more than double but everywhere I checked it said they wouldn't have an appetite.
