How can I avoid senior cat health problems?
Well, my family is adopting a 4 year old cat from the shelter. Im asking the question because I want to make sure I can provide a good older lifestyle for my cat when he grows old. Ill be in high school or university when he reaches his senior years. So, i will be able to provide him with treatment. But, overall i would avoid all the problems in one. What can i provide him with once he is old so he can be comfortable? I'll accept the fact that he'll get arthritis and things like that. But, how can I avoid heart disease and kidney disease and things like that? Please help I want to be prepared P
OLD cat health question?
Just so you know, this may be a little TMI Sorry, but I need some help So, my cat is a 14 year old tabby and as much as I hate to say this, I think she's about to go to kitty heaven but I'm not EXACTLY sure...that's why I need some help with this question For about a month now, she's been drooling. At first, it was a clear gooey drool. She's skinny but she eats A LOT and can really only eat wet food she sleeps ALL day, too . That went on for a little bit and then once we came back from a two week long vacation, we noticed that blood was now mixed in the drool. Also, a goiter started to develop under her bottom jaw. She has absolutely DISGUSTING smelling breath think of a dirty public bathroom and a dumpster . We asked our vet and she said that she eats a lot because she has hyperthyroidism So we cleared that up but for the past couple hours, she's been puking a clear yellowish fluid that smells like her breath and walking around trying to poop. I can tell she's constipated and when ever she does poop, they're tiny, dark brown droplets. Also, when ever she tries to lay down, it almost looks like she's in pain. She does it super slowly. I'm taking her to the vet again sometime soon but does anyone happen to know what could be wrong with her? PS. If I think of any other useful information, I'll add it but for now that's all I have Thank you

Vets/vet techs/cat health experts-feline leukemia question,please?
i have 5 cats with feline leukemia, all still asymptomatic.i also have 2 negative kitties.i keep the felv and the negative cats seperated in different parts of the house.i would love to put the negative kitties in a bedroom for a few hours, and let the felv guys have access to the living room for a little while.i would remove the climbers, toys dishes and scratching posts of the healthy kitties while the felv cats are there.since it is spread by saliva, urine, biting, blood and giving birth,i assume it would be ok for the cats just to play and walk on furniture?or am i mistaken? the felv cats get plenty of love, but live at the back of the house, where we visit and care for them.i just thought they would enjoy spending time with the family in the living room,a more central location.we would enjoy their company.but i dont want to jeaopardise the healthy cats, who stay in the living room most of the time.is it ok as long as the cats are in no direct contact,or is even walking across the same room bad?im not sure how, since it is a blood and secretion borne virus, not an airborne one like flu? any advice welcome. ps i rescued the felv cats from being pts at the shelter.as long as they remain asymptomatic and enjoy their lives,i will let them have a shot at life, whether short or long.they are all doing well so far.again, the negative and positive cats will never meet,i just want to put the healthy cats in another space briefly and let the felv cats enjoy the living room a little bit each day.
Potential cat health issue?
I have a pure bread persian cat that I adopted from a family and I have had her for four months. I just got back from a two day trip and noticed a change in behavior. She is sticking up her butt and when I touch her near her tail, she stretches her legs out and shakes. She doesn't seem upset but a couple of times she meowed very loud like I've never heard. She is sitting on my bed now purring. She is also not neutered. Do you think this could be a big issue?

Rabies shot question, concerning my cats health?
My cat suffers from an autoimmune disorder and past vaccinations and drugs given to her have triggered reactions. I live in Virginia and ever 3 years cats are required to receive a vaccination and the time is up. Are there any restrictions on this law that any of you may know of? She is strictly a house cat and never comes in contact with any cats or animals that are.

Questions on Cat health?
I want to know if there are ways to prevent things like fleas, ringworm, tapeworm, etc. in cats. Any precautions to take? I'm researching things about cats in hopes that I can have one sometime.Sorry it would definately be an indoor cat.Spot on treatments? Is it okay for me to use those as a precautionary measure? I thought you're only supposed to use spot on treatment when they actually get fleas ticks. Thanks for all the advice so far, I was reading up reviews on amazon for Advantage and they have applications for 1 month, 6 months, and 12 months. Which do you use? Also there are a bunch of shampoos, sprays, and powders too. Will those also do as good a job as the pet meds? One last thing, most people have had a good experience with Advantage but I found a reviewer who witnessed side effects in their cat from using Advantage amazon.com Bayer Advantage Purple 6 Month Control product reviews B004QBDO0M ref cm cr pr hist 1?ie UTF8& showViewpoints 0& filterBy addOneStarNow I'm all nervous about using this stuff, lol
Cat Health Issues and Heat?
My cat, Eclipse, goes into heat every month. We have no other cats and she never goes outside. Happy and healthy too, and we love that she gets so lovable and playful during 'that time of the month', and we can deal with her howling. Is there any health problem or need to 'fix' her or anything like that, or is it fine to keep her a 'natural' cat? Don't go onto rants about cat population or anything I heard that there's a slight increase in the risk of cancer for not fixing a cat and they not having kittens, but was just wondering if there was anything else involved.Thanks. D
